OFII validates your long-stay visa worthy of residence permit (VLS-TS).
This formality is mandatory and in the absence of registration within three months of arrival in France, the visa holder will be considered by the French authorities to be in an irregular situation.
WARNING :How to circulate outside France without OFII vignette?
During the three months following your arrival in France, you are allowed to travel outside France and leave the Schengen Area without an OFII sticker. Beyond this, the OFII stamp, or failing this, the attestation of the OFII file, is obligatory to circulate outside France.
